Mangalore: Dist-level Mock Parliament Competition Held for High Schools Students


Mangalore, Dec 8: High School students from across the district recreated the situation in the state assembly in a mock parliament competitions held at the Rosario High School here on Tuesday december 7.

The Youth Parliament district-level competition was organized under the joint auspices of parliamentary affairs department, public instructions department and Rosario High School. It was funny as well as amazing experience to witness the teenaged high school children enacting the role of various politicians from ruling part as well as opposition.

The children took up various issues ranging from corruption in the state as well as development. It was interesting to note that most of the partcipants were girls.

The programme was inaugurated by parliamentary affairs department joint secretary Richard Lobo. He said that such competitions will help childre have an insight into today's politics and added that it was a positive sign for a democratic country.

Rosario Education Institution Convenor Fr Staney Govias presided. Lecturer Thimmappa was the jury.

Deputy director of public instructions D K C Chamegowda welcomed the gathering. Principal of Rosario High School Aloysius D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Elizabeth Fernandes compered the programme. Block education officer Dayavathi among others was present.
