Sullia, Dec 9: The annual feature, ‘Beedi Madesnana’ service has begun at temple town, Subrahmanya. Hundreds of devotees have been offering this service to the Lord all through the day and night, since the last two days.

Normally, Beedi Madesnana is a service offered to Lord Subrahmanya by devotees, who punish their bodies in performance of religious vows previously undertaken in return for favours sought. The devotees, after taking bath in River Kumaradhara, lie down on its banks and start moving towards temple by rolling over their bodies. They cover 2.5 kms of road and Car Street in Subrahmanya town, before reaching the temple. At temple too, they continue to roll around the circumambulation path before taking bath in Darpanateertha rivulet located opposite the temple, getting the Darshan of the Lord and accepting the Prasadam, in fulfilment of the vow.

The devotees hail from different religions, different age groups, right from small kids to old people, and women. Those performing this service are accompanied by Dasaiahs, who blow their conches and hail the Lord on the route.

Mademade Snana

From December 9 to 11 (Shashti Day), Mademadesnana service is offered. In this service, devotees roll over the left overs in banana leaves, after devotees finish their community feast in the outer precincts of the temple. During these three days, annually about 5,000 devotees offer this service.
