Mangalore: Meat Bag Found in Mosque Premises Creates Tense Moments

Mangalore, Dec 11: Situation in and around Ullal near here turned tense for some time on Friday December 10, after a plastic bag containing meat was found to have been tossed inside the premises of Noorani Jumma Masjid located near Kumpala bypass.

Once the news about the discovery of the said bag inside the mosque spread like wild fire, members of a particular community started gathering at the mosque in large numbers. The policemen from Ullal station swung into action, and took steps to disperse the crowd by requesting them to maintain peace and harmony.

It may be recalled that of late, several minor incidents aimed at igniting communal passions, have often been happening in Ullal region. Because of timely action by the policemen there, the situation has not gone out of control so far. It is suspected that a group aimed at tilting the scale in their favour by taking advantage of the situation, in view of the forthcoming Hindu Samajotsav in Bantwal and the zilla and taluk panchayat elections, is behind these incidents.

The policemen, who have registered a case, have beefed up security in the region.

    It's good to find a report(er) with a sense of humorsomething with which this person has absolutely no beef, perceiving no great cause for alarm in a mere bag of meat. However, it's apparently true that for some the mere presence of meat isn't meet, even though for others (such as this person)a good hamburger a la Burger King is hard to beat.

    Kidding aside, in time we may come to see a diminution in offenses to the sensibilities of those for whom the dangers in beef they've yet come to see.

    Stray dogs often carry meat parts, food wastes shoes and chappals around all residential areas in Mnagalore. I think this is the same case here. The government should provide shelters and food to the stray dogs instead of allowing them to eat from raodside garbage and give nuisance to the citizens. Often they end up dieing on the roads with hitting of some vehicles. Give these dogs a sympathetic life instead of allowing them to eat and carry their garbage food everywhere nearby.

    I aprreciate the swift action taken by the police but it is to be mentioned and appreciated that it is the mature behaviour of the management committee of the said masjid which controlled the mob and avoided any untoward incidence.Let us be fair enough to give due credit to the deserved, even if it is Muslim group.

Totally agree with the reporter's assesment. 'come elections and communal elements raise their ugly head with such diabolic designs'
