Bengaluru, Jan 15: Health and medical education minister Dr K Sudhakar, and home minister Araga Jnanendra, have assured the people that even if the Covid cases swell, the government will not impose tough measures like lockdown.

They said they are aware of the woes which befell the people during the previous waves. They pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his interaction with the chief ministers, had asked them to take care to see that there is no heavy financial loss.

Sudhakar predicted that the infection can be fully tamed if the people self-impose Covid restrictions and follow guidelines for six weeks. He advised the people to follow corona guidelines and norms for two more months without fail. "Vaccination alone can keep Covid at bay. Therefore, everyone has to get vaccinated without fail. Even the state governor, Thawar Chand Gehlot, got the third Covid vaccination at Bangalore Medical College," he stated.

He said that so far 83,937 doses of the vaccine have been administered in BMCRI including 420 puerperal women, and 1,179 pregnant women. He requested health staff and other eligible persons to get themselves vaccinated as a precaution. He added that in spite of an increasing number of infections, only 6 percent of the infected persons have got admitted into hospitals. "Experts have said that the infection has not yet peaked in the state. It is likely that it may reach the peak during the first week of February and experts feel that its incidence will go down from the third or fourth week of February," he stated.

Sudhakar noted that Covid-related weekend restrictions are in place from a week and this period is too short for the infection to subside. He said that the in the first two waves, the chain was of 14 days duration each. Noting that the current wave is spreading five to six times faster, he said he expects positive results to emerge for the weekend curfew after a few days.
