Bengaluru, Jan 22: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the Karnataka is clear in its stand with regard to inter-State river water disputes, especially Krishna and Cauvery river basins.

The Chief Minister along with senior advocates representing the State Government in the Supreme Court and Tribunals, Irrigation experts and legal luminaries will be participating in the virtual meet being held in Delhi.

“The participation in the virtual meet on inter-State river water disputes would held the government to clearly formulate its stand,’’ the Chief Minister said in view of the legal disputes constantly being raised by the lower riparian states.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the award of Justice Brijesh Mishra Tribunal as well as the Bachawat awards have come. But the Krishna Tribunal’s final award is yet to be notified. With regard to the Mahadayi tribunal, the final award has come but the matter is still pending before the apex court. The Cauvery tribunal’s award has come and even the final notification has come. However, Mekedatu balancing reservoir project and other issues are pending before the apex court.

“The State is making all efforts to ensure that the inter-State water sharing disputes are sorted out at the earliest possible in consultation with legal and technical experts,’’ Bommai said.
