Mangalore: Solo Exhibition at Orchid Gallery Fuels Christmas Excitement

Mangalore, Dec 24: The first solo exhibition of paintings of differently-abled artist, Zena Colaco, ‘sound of silence’ was inaugurated at Orchid Art Gallery in Balmatta on Friday December 24. The exhibition will go on till 5th of January. In all 21 paintings of Zena Colaco are displayed at the exhibition. The artist’s talent in composition, style, and choice of colours are reflected in the paintings.
Lexmi Kumaran, deputy general DGM of MRPL after inaugurating the exhibition said that parents play a predominant role in bringing up talent in society. She congratulated St Agnes Special School principal Sr Maria Jyothi for motivating such talent.
Fr Denis D’Souza, the chief guest at the programme also delivered his blissful speech. He also said that this has turned to be a meaningful programme as people are already rejoicing in festive mood.
About the Artist
Zena Colaco is a gifted artist, despite her hearing and speech impairment. She showed her latent talent at an early age and pursued it along with her formal education at St Agnes Special School. She went on to do her pre -university at National Open University and diploma in Fashion Designing from Mangalore University. Not content with these academic achievements, she insisted on honing her art skills under the tutelage of Mr. Sunil Abraham at Kala Vision, Mangalore. She further wanted to round off these skills with computer animation and did precisely that at Toon Skool. Having been thus equipped, Zena now feels that she is ready for a solo exhibition.
Sounds of Silence
The theme of the exhibition is aptly named Sounds of Silence i.e. how a hearing and speech impaired person comes to perceive the world of music with all its nuances- its sights, sounds and celebration of life. Her view is positive in every sense of the word. That is why she has chosen bright and bold colors on a canvas medium. Her thoughts are abstract and the viewer is kindly advised to make an unhurried attempt at appraising her art because of the enormity of odds she has overcome to become an artist.
