Bengaluru, Feb 10: A private insurance company has realised with delay that the wife of a policyholder had falsely claimed that her husband died of heart attack with an eye on claiming the insurance amount of three crore rupees. The company has now filed a complaint against her.
P S Ganapathi, manager of the law department of the insurance firm, has complained to Koramangala police in this regard. The police have registered a first information report against Supriya Lakakula, a resident of Vittasandra.
Krishnaprasad Garalapatti (31), originally form Andhra Pradesh, had got an insurance policy for three crore rupees on his life online. He had named his wife, Supriya, as the nominee. Krishnaprasad had died on May 14, 2021. Supriya furnished documents to the insurance company certifying that her husband had died of heart attack. After due verification, a sum of Rs 3.2 crore was transferred to Supriya's bank account.
Later, a person named Ravi had contacted the insurance company and given a letter claiming that Krishnaprasad had died of cancer. He also said that when buying the insurance policy, Krishnaprasad had concealed the fact that he was suffering from cancer. He also said that Supriya had claimed the amount on the basis of fake documents.
The company which verified the facts stated in the letter, has filed a police complaint against the wife.
