Bengaluru, Feb 10: With a three-member bench of Karnataka High Court passing an interim order directing that high schools and colleges in the State should be opened from Monday with students adhering to the stipulation that nobody should wear any kind of religious symbols and attire, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has urged the people to have self-restraint on the school and college uniform issue to maintain peace over the hijab vs saffron shawls row.
Speaking to media representatives on Thursday, February 10, the Chief Minister appealed to all sections of the people not to do anything or speak that might disturb peace and harmony.
The State Government had ordered three-day closure of all high schools and colleges in order to ensure that the students and their studies should not be affected. The issue is now pending before the three-judge bench of the High Court. It is advisable to await the judicial order, he said.
Bommai said everybody must respect and honour the court orders and also ensure that the courts are able to decide on the issue in a dispassionate manner without any law and order problems in the State. In a democracy, court orders must be obeyed by everybody, he said.
The Chief Minister underscored the need to be sensitive on the issue of Children and Students.
The Chief Minister kept himself busy throughout the day with department-wise pre-budget discussions with the ministers concerned and all senior officials.
In the morning, the Chief Minister paid floral tributes to former Chief Minister Kengal Hanumanthaiah to mark his 114th birth anniversary by garlanding the statue in front of Vidhana Soudha.
Later, he released the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda’s calendar and logo of the Kemegowda Heritage Development Authority.
