Udupi, Dec 28: Nine ‘Hoysala’ vehicles have been pressed into service at various places in the district for attending to cases like road accidents, building collapses, other disturbances, natural calamities and such other eventualities. They were formally inaugurated by district deputy commissioner, Hemalata, on Monday December 27.

In addition to five new Chevrolet Tavera vehicles, four vehicles the district already had with it, have been prepared for this task. These nine vehicles have been entrusted to Udupi, Manipal-Hiriyadka, Malpe, Kaup-Padubidri, Kundapur, Brahmavar-Kota, Gangolli, Byndoor-Kollur, and Karkala regions. These vehicles have been equipped to face any eventualities at short notice.

Each of these vehicles has been provided with an assistant sub-inspector of police, and three head constables/police constables. People can access to their services by calling telephone No. 0820-2526444 or 100. These vehicles have been provided with global positioning systems, communication equipments, necessary arms and ammunitions, first aid tools, protective gear, fire extinguishers, micro phones, blinkers, chains and some other necessary tools.

‘Hoysala’ will be ready to rush to the spot and tackle the situation, as police stations normally need some time before they get prepared and attend to emergencies. ‘Hoysala’ vehicles will also be handy in cases line chain snatching, pick pockets etc., in which they can chase the culprits and nab them.

Superintendent of police, Pravin Madhukar Pawar, additional SP, M V Venkateshappa, deputy superintendent of police, Jayant Shetty, reserve police force inspector, M M Yadawad, Sheenappa Nayak and others were present at the programme.
