Mangalore, Jan 1: Through an order dated December 31, 2010, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner and district magistrate, Subodh Yadav, has mandated traffic diversions in city roads on Sunday January 2, in view of the fact that Hindu Samajotsava is being organized at Nehru Maidan here.

In his order, he has noted that a procession connected with the Samajotsava is being taken out by various Hindu outfits from Dr Ambedkar Circle in the city to the venue of the Samajotsava at 3 pm through Hampankatta, and that the city police commissioner, in his report, has recommended for the issuance of a notification, ordering diversion of traffic during the period of the above programme. Accordingly, in exercise of powers vested with him under section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rules 1989, the deputy commissioner has instructed the vehicles moving on the roads through which the procession will move, to use alternative roads. As such, during the period of the procession, vehicular traffic on the route stands banned. This arrangement will be in force from 1 pm on January 2 till the programme comes to an end.

All private and city buses coming to the city from the direction of Talapady have been asked to move via Old Kannady Road from Pumpwell and reach Cascia Junction before returning. Buses and heavy vehicles coming from Mahakalipadpu have also to return after reaching Cascia Junction. Route No. 5 buses have to return after reaching Kankanady bus stand. Route No. 27 buses have to return after reaching Attavar Anand Shetty Circle. Private and city buses coming into the city via Nantoor circle have to go back after reaching Mallikatte. Buses coming to the city from Bondel via Bejai have to return after reaching Lady Hill Circle. They are barred from reaching PVS Circle. Vehicles coming from Kavoor and Kuntikan as well as Kottara, have also to return after reaching Lady Hill Circle. Route No. 16 buses have to return after reaching Rao and Rao Circle.  Route No. 15 buses can move via Nantoor after reaching Pumpwell through Pumpwell-Kankanady Old Road. All the express buses coming from Udupi have been instructed to reach either Lady Hill or Mallikatte through Nantoor, before going back. Buses going out can move via Hampankatta and K S Rao Road till the procession reaches near that area.

Government buses coming to KSRTC bus stand have to take Nantoor-KPT-Bejai road, and go back via Lalbagh, Bunts Hostel, Mallikatte and Karavali.

Parking on both sides of the roads on K S Rao Road, Lady Goschen Road, Falnir Road and Light House Hill Road have been banned. Vehicles can be parked in places specifically marked by the organizers.
