Udupi, Feb 20: "We considered Muslim women as our sisters and liberated them from triple talaq. The bill against it was passed for the benefit of the Muslim women. Those fighting for Hijab must understand this," said minister of social welfare and Backward Classes here on Sunday, February 20.
He called on the those women fighting for Hijab to refrain from heeding to "communal forces dividing people for votes. "Stop fuelling religious fanaticism. Uniform symbolises unity. Nobody is questioning the Constitutional right of Hijab or Burqua", Poojary said.
He asked the protestors to respect the law and accused the Congress of provoking them to violate the High Court order. The Muslim community students must desist from matters or discussions leading to contempt of court, the minister requested.
"Children go to educational institutes for studying. The court has clearly directed in the interim order that till further orders only uniforms should be worn. One section of students have stopped wearing saffron shawls since the court order. But the Hijab wearing girls are maintaining unity only among themselves. Some hidden forces are playing the girls. It is unfortunate that parties like Congress are glorifying the Hijab issue," lamented Poojary.
He called upon the protestors to heed to prime minister Narendra Modi's message of the country living in unity.
Wearing Hijab to school, college unconstitutional-MLA B Y Raghavendra
"The fight for Hijab by six girl students has spread to the whole nation. The High Court has clearly mandated the uniform code in educational institutes. We should respect the judiciary and Constitution," said MLA B Y Raghavendra here.
It is not right to behave unconstitutionally while fighting for Fundamental Rights, he opined, citing that a section of students had refrained from using saffron shawl respecting the Constitution.
"Students are pure at heart. Some anti-national elements are polluting the young minds. Please respect the Constitution and judiciary. Constitution stresses on education. We cannot have different rules for different people", Raghavendra said.
