Bangalore: Cabinet Approves Draft Bill of Mulgeni Rights

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (RD/SB)

Bangalore, Jan 4: The state administration has prepared a draft of Mulgeni Rights Bill in order to address several years of grievances by Mulgeni right owners and tenants in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The draft of Bill was approved in the cabinet meeting held here on Monday January 3, while it will be tabled in the assembly shortly.

Addressing the media persons after the cabinet meeting, state higher education minister, Dr V S Acharya, said that the draft bill, which is likely to be approved in the assembly, will enhance the compensation payable to the Muldars by about 500 percent, while in some cases, this will be as high as 1000 percent.

Mulgeni Rights were revoked after the enforcement of Karnataka Land Tribunal Act, which caused major hindrances to both Mulgeni right owners and tenants. The bill was drafted in order to resolve the long pending issue.

I congratulate the moolageni Vokkalu Rakshana Vedike(R) formed in April 2008 to fight for the cause of the Moolageni Rights to the Moolagenidaars. Their worthy efforts voluntarily rendered for the cause of the Moolagedaar inspite of the various objections from all sides has succeded today in bringing the issue to the Karnataka Assembly. I wish that it will move further and will become an Act and thus will protect the poor Moolgenidaars of Karavali Karnataka to get their long awaited the moolageni right. It is also heard that some force has already been used by section of the society by way of gundaism on these poor tenants chasing them to evict the house over night. In such cases the affected public should file the FIR with the local police station immediately and contact the comittee members for their help in the way it is necessary. I again congratulate the moolageni Vokkalu Raksdhana Vedike for their success till now and pray to the Almighty to give them courage and move forward with the right spirit in helping/protecting their members. Goodluck
