Bengaluru, Mar 13: Rumours are making the rounds that Karnataka might go for early assembly elections in the wake of the poll results of five states that were announced  a couple of days ago.

The elections for Gujarat assembly will be held at the end of this year. According to sources, there is a high possibility that the Karnataka assembly elections will be held at the same time.

Former CM Kumaraswamy has spoken about early assembly elections at a press conference in Kalaburagi before the five state election results were announced. It is said that there is a possibility of BJP high command calling state BJP leaders including CM Bommai to Delhi in the month of April to discuss this matter.

In the midst of the rumours, former PM and supremo of JD (S) Deve Gowda said, “Former CM Yediyurappa himself has said that there is difference in the political scenario of Karnataka and other states. Bommai, who was selected by Yediyurappa, is ruling now. What is the need for early elections in this situation? In addition, it is not easy to hold assembly elections before the completion of the scheduled term.”

Giving his opinion on the rumours of early assembly elections, former CM and leader of opposition Siddaramaiah said, “We are ready to face the state assembly elections at any given time. Will those (ruling BJP) who have not yet held elections for zilla panchayats hold early elections for state assembly? I do not think so. According to what information I have, BJP will never go for early assembly elections in Karnataka.”

KPCC president D K Shivakumar said that Congress is ready even if assembly elections are declared tomorrow itself.
