I had the distinct privilege of knowing Mr Kamath. He used to coach us when we were kids in Mangalore. The sad part of cricket now is that it is all about money. Everyone is in it just for the money. That was not the case back in his day. What an amazing talent he was. I am deeply saddened by his demise. He was very kind, soft spoken and a true gentleman. I hope that his family finds peace in their grief.

I am deeply grieved to know about my Coach Sri Dayanand Kamath's demise. There is no doubt that he was an extraordinary talented Cricketer, that's why West Indians called him Garry Sorbers of India. The Power of his shoulders & Arms were amazing. However, KSCA was sighless to be acquainted with this Mangalore talent, as a result, it was an immense loss for Indian Cricket.

When he started coaching again in Mangalore, I was one of the lucky one to learn the skills from him.
I still remember his great advices, tips & guidelines he had given while playing with him for PPSA & Vijayalaxmi teams during my school days which helped me later when I played higher level Cricket. I still preserve the SAC & Ranji Caps he had given me in his house.
My heart-felt Condolences & I pray that 'May his departed soul rest in peace'.

I had the privelege of watching Dayanand Kamath when he played for St. Aloysius at the Nehru Maidan. He was fondly called Nanda and he also had his cousin Surendra playing for Pentlandpet then. As a young student, we used to walk all the way from school to watch the college team play where Dayanand was always the star performer. Dayanand was a great allrounder who could open the bowling, spin the ball later and plundered runs just like Vivian Richards. He was powerfully built with a swinging throw of the ball which I can still remember even today! Nanda was a mammoth 'once in a life time' cricketer who was simply sidelined by the Karnataka ors. If only the ors had shown more patience and appreciation for the Mangalorean, Dayanand would have played even for the Indian team.
Sad, that such a golden talent was wasted without respect. Whenever I visited the Ganesh Bazaar branch of the State Bank of Mysore I always made it a point to have a glance at the mighty cricketer who sat at one of the desks passing his time. He probably would have loved to coach.
My heart weeps as I abhor the policies of some who have no values in life and destroy such Godsent talent abruptly. They do not want to see a flower bloom nicely. The late Dayanand Kamath was a classic example of wasted talent. Simply because someone somewhere did not want him to be a shining star of India.
For me, Dayanand Kamath will always be a great player.
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE ALWAYS.

GARRY SORBERS OF INDIA ! Remember, this nick name was given to Mr.Dayanand Kamath by West Indian players when they played against South Zone Team. Like Sobers,he is a left handed batsman with hard hitting batting, and a good spin bowler. He made 47 runs against deadly West Indies fast bowlers.Unfortunately, because of politics Mr.Kamath didn't get place in Indian team. Had Mr.Kamath been from Mumbai or Delhi, then he would have played more than 50 tests ! Anyway..for Mangaloreans Mr Kamath is a CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS !

We used to watch daymam in mangala stadium long ago..he used to sit there alone.Maybe he used to wonder what went wrong? Maybe petty poltics and luck factor worked against him....surely he was very talented.Maybe not much infrastructure in sports in coastal belt is also to be blamed..Lot of talent is getting wasted, but who cares? or why do should we care???... our culture from "sarve janaha sukino bhuvanthu" has changed to nanna mane matra sukino bhuvanthu" God save india.....May daymams soul rest in peace...

At Udupi when we were in School there were appreciate social talks about handsome all rounder Dayananda Kamath. He was very respected Criketer in those days.

He was even considered to be a very prospective player to represent India however it is sad that it didnt materialize due to 'cricket politics' of yester years.

At Udupi all the cricketers were scared about his spin & notoriosly it was called as 'airspin'.

HE & his cousin brother Surendra Kamath who played for 'petlendpet' Nangalore were the stars in those day.

I join the whole lot of cricketers in mourning his sudden demise and pray that 'May his soul rest in peace'
