Udupi, Mar 16: During the arguments relating to Hijab controversy in the state high court, senior advocate, S S Nagananda, appearing for the Udupi PU college, brought to the notice of the bench that the college has been following the rule relating to wearing of uniforms since 2004. He said that on December 30, 2021, activists of Campus Front of India (CFI) had met the college officials and urged them to allow the girl students to wear the HIjabs. He said that after the college refused permission, disputes were raised. He brought to the notice of the judges that several Muslim families living around the Krishna Math at Udupi take part in the car festival etc and that this harmonious relationship is now sought to be harmed.

The high court took serious note of the development and sought further details. On the next day, state advocate general, Prabhuling K Kavadgi, submitted an envelope containing the details of a first information report filed in the case on the basis of complaints made by the college teachers.

The high court in its judgement expressed happiness at the fact that the Muslims take part in the festivals and other observations of the eight Maths in Udupi and that this tradition has impressed the high court judges.
