Udupi, Mar 16: Division of Surgical Gastroenterology was inaugurated at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal on March 16. Dr Vivek Mangla, Director - Gastrointestinal and Hepatopancreatobiliary, Surgical Oncology at Max Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi was the chief guest of the program.
Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor, MAHE, Manipal presided over the program. Dr P L N G Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor (Medical and Dental Sciences) MAHE, Manipal, Dr Nagaraj Palankar chief consultant and Head, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, Manipal Hospital Bengaluru were the guests of honour of the program.
Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, Dean, KMC, Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital Manipal, Dr Bharath K Bhat, Incharge Division of Surgical Gastroenterology, Dr Jegan Mohan S, Assistant professor Division of Surgical Gastroenterology were present.
In his inaugural address Dr Vivek Mangla said,“The Division of Surgical Gastroenterology started in 1980s, gradually developed in metro cities. It is very nice to launch in semi-urban cities like Manipal, with this now one of the organ-based specialties available to the societies at the doorstep”
Dr Nagaraj Palankar Said, ” KMC hospital is the institution providing health care needs to the large areas of people, not only Karnataka, but also Kerala, Goa and other neighbouring states and KMC is not like other institution, beyond that it is making a lot of other social impact to the society.
Dr PLNG Rao Congratulated whole team for the new division started in Kasturba hospital, Manipal and said KMC is forefront in starting and providing new services right from the beginning.
In his Presidential address, Dr Venkatesh spoke about the importance of starting new specialties and subspecialties and said broad specialties are the mother department for to grow sub specialties and also resident and nursing power is very important for the success of any subspecialties.
Dr Sharath Kumar Rao welcomed the gathering and Dr Avinash Shetty proposed vote of thanks. Dr Bharath Bhat gave an over view on the Division of Surgical Gastroenterology. Dr Sridevi KN Assistant Professor, Master of Ceremony for the program.
