Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 19: Some parts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts experienced rainfall on Friday March 18 evening. The rainfall was somewhat heavy in some places and only a drizzle in some others. In general, the coastal areas which were reeling under scorching heat and humidity, got some respite.

Moodbidri, Kinnigoli, Charmadi Subrahmanya and other places received rain with thunder while Mangaluru, Bantwal, Ullal and Mulky experienced cloudy weather. Places like Manipal, Katapady, Kota, Karkala and Hiriadka experienced cloudy weather in the afternoon. In the evening, they received rainfall.

Scientist of Karnataka State National Disaster Relief Centre, Gavaskar, said that this is pre monsoon rainfall and there is a possibility that coastal areas and the regions in Malnad districts may receive rainfall for a few more days. The meteorological department said that in the next 48 hour, some parts of coastal Karnataka are likely to get rainfall with thunder.

The rain created problems to farmers who had laid out their areca nuts for drying. A fallen coconut tree damaged sheets and a jeep at Shibaje in Dakshina Kannada district. A huge tree fell down near a petrol bunk in Kolpadabail. As the tree fell on the power line, it caused losses.

The entire Beltangady taluk including Dharmasthala received rainfall with thunder for half an hour.
