Sullia: Youth facing charge of raping girl gets bail

Sullia, Mar 21: A person accused of raping a girl was released on bail on Saturday March 19.

It was alleged that a girl from Kallugundi area here was raped by the accused identified as Rakshit, who also hails from the same area. He had then dropped her back at her home in his two-wheeler. Before that, he had taken the girl away in his vehicle by offering intoxicants to the girl's mother, it was claimed.

The other family members if the girl came to know of the incident with delay. On the basis of a complaint made by the girl against the accused, a case accusing Rakshit of raping the girl who belongs to scheduled caste, was made and the accused was booked under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered. The accused was produced in the court after booking him under the provisions of the said act and produced in the court on September 6, 2020.

As the fifth additional sessions and district court at Puttur granted conditional bail to the accused, he was released from Karwar prison, it is learnt.

Advocates M Venkappa Gowda, Champa Venkappa Gowda and Rajesh B G had argued the case on behalf of the accused.
