Coke and Nestle Shut Operations in Egypt: Report

Cairo, Feb 1 (DPA) Coca-Cola Co. and Nestle SA have decided to close their operations in Egypt, the Wall Street Journal reported.

This followed a decision Sunday by Shell, the petroleum concern, to shut its operations in the country, where anti-government protesters took to the streets in their thousands for the seventh day Monday.

The Cairo office of Coke "will not reopen until security in the city improves", the newspaper cited the company as saying.

Nestle's operations "have been temporarily interrupted due to ongoing political unrest across the country", according to a spokeswoman speaking with the financial daily.
