Udupi, Feb 2: “A mega convention of all the Garodis in Tulu Nadu will be conducted at Tingale Garody in Tingale near Hebri on March 7, 8 and 9. The trustees, priests, Darshana Patris, those who perform Kola etc, from all over Tulunadu will come together for this event. It will be held under the auspices of Tingale Garody,” informed president of the convention reception committee, V Sunil Kumar. He was addressing a press conference here on Tuesday February 1.
“Tingale Brahmabaidarkala Garody is one among the 66 ancient Garodys functioning in Tulunadu. Tingale Ravindra Heggade had added religious, cultural, and literary dimensions to the annual Nemotsav of the Garody 50 years ago. They continue to feature in the annual festival here. Various stalwarts including Kota Shivaram Karant and Anantamurty had taken part in these events. For the first time, this Garody will be hosting a mega convention of this kind,” Kumar explained.
The convention will have sessions on history and traditions of Garodys, their cultural contributions, gymnasiums, worship centres, code of conduct, system of management, future plans etc. Mangalore University registrar, Dr Chinnappa Gowda, will deliver valedictory address. Bannanje Govindacharya willl preside. K S Nityananda of Vedashram, Chikmagalur, will deliver benedictory address. State law minister, Suresh Kumar, MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Chittaranjan of Kankanady Brahmabaidarkala Garody, Mijarguttu Anand Alva, Erya Lakshminarayan Alva and many others will be present. A programme of felicitating leading personalities like K Amarnath Shetty, Jeevandhar Kumar, Bannanje Babu Amin, Damodar Kalmady, Gangaiah Parava and Padda Sherigar, will also be held on this occasion, he revealed.
Religious and cultural programmes slated for March 8 will be inaugurated by Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade on that day at 10 am. Dr Ganesh Amin Sankamar will deliver keynote address. Minister, Dr V S Acharya, will release a book. MP, D V Sadanand Gowda, MLA, Gopal Bhandary, former MP, Vinayakumar Sorake and a number of other dignitaries will participate in the proceedings, he added.
Reception committee vice president, Prof Krishna Bhat, honorary advisors, Kota Srinivas Poojary and Ambatanaya Mudrady, convener, Tingale Vikramarjun Hegde, Ravi Amin, and Suprasad Shetty Baikady were present at the press conference.
