Bidar, Apr 10: “Hindi will not be imposed in Karnataka. Union home minister Amit Shah did not ask us to impose Hindi compulsorily in Karnataka. But his statement is unnecessarily misunderstood by some people and the same is being conveyed to the general public,” said chief minister Bommai.

Bommai was responding to a statement given by former CM and leader of the opposition Siddaramiah that imposition of Hindi is a sign of slavery. He further said, “We have lots of respect towards Hindu priests. It is not right on the part of former CM H D Kumaraswamy to have spoken lightly about priests.”

Bommai also responded to the query on the Wakf Board removal campaign in the state by Pramod Mutalik of Sri Rama Sene. He said, “There is no connection between the campaign and the government. Our job is to perform our duties in accordance with the law and maintain peace and discipline. The motto of the government is to maintain equality among all religions.”
