Bangalore: Wipe Out Corruption, Says Ravi Shankar

Bangalore, Feb 6 (IANS) Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Sunday urged Indians to join hands "to root out corruption".

"Fight corruption with truth and non-violent means. We have to come together to root out corruption from India," he told a large gathering of youths here.

Speaking at his Art of Living International Center for the Yuva Jagruti Sammelan, he said that youths had a key role to play in combating corruption.

"We need to stand strong against corruption irrespective of any party or person," Ravi Shankar added.

Youths from villages around Bangalore and Ramanagaram had gathered for the event to debate ways to tackle corruption at the grassroots.

The participants discussed a number of strategies, including the use of RTI act and proactively following up on the status of projects and schemes with local officials and elected representatives.

The organizers also released a sticker: "I do not take a bribe". The stickers will be distributed in government offices to discourage officials at village and taluk levels from taking bribes.

It is only a wishful thinking to have corruption free India. In reality, it is impossible to have such a situation as  corruption is so deep rooted in body mind and soul of the nation. There is hardly any field untouched by corrruption for which our political/judicial system only responsible. If we look at the events that culminated in the process of appointment of CVC should be the eye opener to asses how sincere we are to eradicate corruption. We are fit to preach only but not for practicing the values being preached. In our country only salaried class are paying the IT correctly. This one point is enough to understand how corruption has engulfed us.

Radia tapes, clearly spelt out, India Who's who...all hand in glove. By precluding the Traffic cop or the local court clerk in refusing to accept Rs 50....who is gonna bell those powers to be, who accept 50,000 crores and are the real epic centre. Frankly i have little hopes, since this mailise is growing by the day. Why not simply legitimise it. like, a Traffic cops salary should be as a % of the fines he collects. A capitalist outlook is the only way out.
    Jai Hind.

One way to do that is distribute those stickers to all person in Authority and prominently displayed on their desk. If after distribution, they do not display it, will technically mean, they do accept bribe. Way to go. I support such a wonderful initiative. We should root out corruption from every day events such as police, customs, ticket checkers, village accountants, pension paying clerks, so on and so forth. Future generations should feel proud to say that they are a part of non-corrupt India.
