Daijiworld Media Network – Brahmavar (MS)

Brahmavar, Apr 19: In a bizarre incident, which is seen only in movies, a bride refused to marry the groom when he was about to tie Mangalasutra to her neck saying that she has liked proposal of some other youth. Invariably, the marriage did not take place.

The bride and groom are both natives of Brahmavar. The groom was employed overseas, while the bride was working in Bengaluru. They got engaged four months ago and were conversing over telephone.

When the time of muhurat was nearing and the groom was about to tie the Mangalasutra, the bride took the groom to a room inside the hall and said that she is not interested in the marriage as she likes the proposal of some other youth.

Lunch was arranged for nearly 1,000 guests. The invitees were shocked to see the sort of scene that happens only in movies.

Brahmavar police intervened and both the parties agreed to bear the expenses of the marriage arrangement equally. The strange case somehow was sorted out amicably without any untoward incident.

Of late instances of refusing the groom / bride during the last minute is notice often. As matured adults one could refuse to marry a person before hand and avoid unnecessary expenses as well as bitterness. Recently came across an incident in social media wherein bride slapped the groom and refused to marry him when he was about to tie the mangal sutra. One should be reasonable enough to understand difficulties of elders who put in lots of money sweat and time to arrange a marriage. Irrational behaviour of youngsters can not be tolerated.
