Mangalore: Rural Post Office Employees to Protest Today

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Feb 10: Under the aegis of Rural Postal Employees Association, postal employees from rural centres will be holding a symbolic protest in front of all the divisional offices in the state on Thursday February 10 afternoon. They have been demanding revision of wages on par with the recommendations of the sixth pay commission.

The protest is being organized all over India. The grievances of the rural employees of the postal department are about not linking their salaries to pay commission’s recommendations and inflation, and non-implementation of the Supreme Court’s recommendations to consider rural employees as employees of the department, among others.

Zonal secretary of the association, K C Annappa, and state unit joint secretary, Vijay Nairy, informed that the protest will be staged in all the divisions including Mangalore, Puttur, and Udupi, today. A release from the association said that about 500 rural postal employees will participate in the protest march to parliament, being held on February 23 in support of their demands.
