Bangalore, Feb 11: Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has sent a proposal to the government, seeking permission to affect a minimum hike of three rupees per litre of its ‘Nandini’ brand of milk. State minister for cooperation, Lakshman Savadi, informed that the government is considering the proposal, and that a decision will be taken shortly.

Savadi stated that the KMF has, in its proposal, mentioned that there has been a procurement shortfall of one lac litres of milk per day because of the low procurement price offered by it. He said that the KMF has sought to increase the price of a litre of milk from the present Rs 19 to Rs 22. KMF hopes to meet the procurement shortfall once the rate is upwardly revised.

The minister said that the KMF has assured of passing on the benefit of the entire price hike to the dairy farmers. He expressed the confidence that a decision on the issue will come out within a week.
