Trivial Reason Triggers High Voltage Drama, Wedding Called off

Trivial Reason Triggers High Voltage Drama, Wedding Called off

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (VA)

Bangalore, Mar 10: Here's something straight out of a saas-bahu TV serial. A wedding was cancelled  amidst an uproar from dissenting relatives just as the groom was about to tie the mangalsutra, only this time, it was not a soap opera but a true-life incident.

A high voltage drama over a trivial reason of not booking an air-conditioned room for the groom’s family members resulted in the cancellation of what would have been a grand wedding at Sadashiv Nagar here on Tuesday Mach 8.

It was the girl who boldly called off the wedding after being disgusted with the attitude of the groom and his family members.

Dr Shwetha and Dr Amit, both from the city, were all set to tie the knot and the wedding arrangements were made at a cost of Rs 20 lac. All the rituals of the wedding were almost over and the groom was about to tie the mangalsutra to the bride.

Just then, in a truly melodramatic style that one so often witnesses in a typical saas-bahu kind of serial, they were interrupted by the groom’s family members, who created a scene in the hall for not being provided an air-conditioned room for their stay. The bride’s side tried their best to convince the groom’s party who were adamant and refused to be appeased with any of their pleas.

Irked with their attitude, Dr Shwetha boldly announced she would not marry the man under any circumstance. She questioned before the gathering, "How would his family look after me once we are married, when they show this kind of attitude on the wedding day itself?"

The bride’s family had to call the police when Dr Amit’s family members continued their argument. The Basaweshwara police arrived at the venue and brought the situation under control.

The groom was already given 1 lac in cash and ornaments by the bride’s family members. Definitely, it was one 'wedding' the guests would not easily forget!

Mr. Rakesh Mehra: I said what i saw on TV. The groom and his mother were beaten black and blue, and even the police could not save them. And they deserved it too. As Charles D'Mello said, to be beaten up with bathroom chappals. It is not 'rubbish'. Sometimes it is the only way to teach arrogant people a lesson and bring them down to earth.
But even if i were the bride, I too would've had them beaten up to teach not just them, but all future greedy grooms and their families such a lesson as to be etched in their minds forever. i too am a very well educated girl, but i will never tolerate anyone humiliating my parents. We are proud of Dr. Shwetha and hope that she becomes an inspiration for all future brides.

Well done Dr. Shweta. Very good decision. We all Indians are proud of you. Very soon you will settle in life with an understanding groom, but this so called Dr. Amit (Authorities must find out whether his Degree is true or false)will never get a peaceful life. He has already lost his life by losing the moral value of life. Well Done! Great.

This is a sad story. This is an unusual story. This story does not portray the traditional values, rituals, customs and festivals of a glamorous Indian wedding. There must be more deeper and emotional circumstances
surrounding the drastic decision on the part of the bride and the bridegroom who are both well educated and civilized in this world of reality. Instead of consumating the sanctity of a Hindu marriage they both end up desperately in their own homes with tears, fears and disappointments. What a shame.

Where were the Temple priests? Where were the noble dignitaries in the audience that could not create a gift of compromise. Where does the stupid airconditioning or the dawry or jewellery comes on the way before the precious Indian values of commitment? Its certainly not fair to be pre-judgemental over the sad episode, but hopefully the prospective bride and the bridegroom will go thru the horoscope all over again and reconcile their basic differences by wiping their tears and embracing themselves with a joyful saying "we do" and be a happy and prosperous wedded couple for the rest of their life. Life is full of "forgiveness" where the beauty of "AIR CONDITIONING" lies deep within two precious individuals amidst all the rain and sunshine. Qudha Afeiz.

Well... A very brave stand taken by Dr Shwetha by calling off the wedding. The bridegroom's side must have amassed money by unethical means and so do not know the value and thus began their true colours behaving like goons.

All girls should take a firm stand that they shall give any dowry and if any one asks for dowry, then they shall be insulted and humiliated. What the man will do. I am sure, he will fall into the feet of girl and her parents for the hand of girls. Can any one establish family without the girls? Then why so much disparity between boy and girl. When boy and girls are made for each other and complimentary to ech other, its by nature, they are mates, why the boys are selling themselves for money... Stop demanding and giving dowry....

Religious leaders are good enough to bring about devision between the communities but they are not at all working towards eradicating social evils like caste system, dowry, female infanticide, alcoholism, lottery, gambling, prostitution etc. etc. We need more of social reformers like Basavanna, thinkers like sarvajna, kanakadasa, purandaradasa etc... Modern day clergies are useless and selfish and involved in lust/sex and go after material wealth and false fame and hollow pride...In our child hood I used to hear the bhajans in every household in the evenings sung by young children andn their parents. But today these bhajans are limited to CDS and USBs only.

One can listen only filmy songs and bhajans and keertanas have become matter of yester years and its history now. We have beocme cultural bankrupt and lost all our morale values. TV sets have great influence on our lives and crime and sins have increased and piousness is reduced/vanished from us.

This incident demonstrates how materialistic we have become. In bygone days people used to use things and value human beings, now they value material things and use human beings, such is the degradation in our society that too this was not expected from an educated family of Dr. Amit. Assuming him to be a medical doctor just think what sort of attitude will he have in his profession while treating patients!!

The decision taken by Dr Shweta can set example for other girls in future. Girls with Dr Sheweta's qualification can afford to decide the way she did. But the Society should be blamed for all problems today faced by girls in India.

May be Dr Amit did not expect the marriage to end like this or may be he tried but his family did not listen. I am sure Dr Amit may have tried to stop but his family did not listen. When news items like this are reported, everything does not get reported. May be this marriage was not destined for fruition. Perhaps this incident will clean the Society in future.

You should have seen this news on TV yesterday. The groom and his mother were beaten up with chappals, pulled on all sides. The police were taking beatings from the bride's family in order to protect the groom and his mother. It was one wedding worth watching. This is what happens when grooms and their families become too greedy. Kudos! to the bride for refusing to marry such a person. Her question is justified 'What is the guarantee that they will keep her happy after marriage, if they do such naatak on the wedding day itself?'
