Mangalore: Agnesians Strive for Community Awareness on Solid Waste Management

Mangalore, Mar 21: The department of commerce of St Agnes College here organized an educative programme on “Community Awareness Campaign on Solid Waste Management” at the College Auditorium on Monday March 21.

Mahesh Kumar, assistant director of fisheries, office of regional director of environment, pollution control board, Mangalore was the chief guest.

Delivering his address he said that there is need to take a strong decision against the usage of plastic which is harmful to the environment. As plastic is created by human itself, we only have to bring an end to it and thus the move initiated by St Agnes College on the burning issue is commendable, he added. He stressed that everyone should have civic sense in the society.

Dr Sr Marie Prem D’Souza, principal, was the president of the programme. She wished for clean and green Mangalore City. 

Dr U Tara Rao, principal, Government First Grade College for Women, Balmatta was the guest of honor.

Speaking on the occasion she pointed out that even history has taught all of us a lesson about the importance of environment conservation. She said the well known ‘Harappa’ civilization had destroyed due to environment negligence.

On the same occasion, clothes bags were unveiled by the guests on the dais and message against the usage of plastic bags were passed on to the society.

Dr Devi Prabha Alva, the staff co-ordinator welcomed the gathering. Supreetha proposed the vote of thanks. Anjali Rao and Sahithya, compered the programme.

The students of the government first grade college for women, Balmatta and students of Pathways Cell, St Aloysius College were present on the occasion. A skit was staged in which the process of waste management was splendidly elaborated.
