Beltangady, Aug 17: Likeminded People Forum held a programme to protect the constitutional rights here on the Independence Day of the nation.

Social activist Dhammananda B who spoke under the slogan, my food is my right said that protecting our rights under the constitution is my right. “It is a misfortune of our country that we have to live in pathetic conditions. Though our right to food is mentioned in the constitution, Sangh Parivar is trying to snatch it away from us. What we eat is our right. Who gave the right to Sangh Parivar to question it? It is inevitable that we unite and fight for our rights,” he said.

Social activist, CPIM leader Shekar Laila said that it is unfortunate that we are raising our voices for our constitutional rights after 75 years of independence. “A Dalit boy in Rajasthan was killed because he touched a water pot. Sangh Parivar and BJP are indulging in illegal transport of cattle. The country has become number one in the export of beef after the Narendra Modi led government took over the rule. BJP party’s elected representatives and Sangh Parivar leaders are the owners of companies exporting beef. But the government attacks our food habits,” he said.

Advocate Abin Francis said that we will be losing our rights if we do not speak about them.
