Udupi, Aug 19: The ICYM and YCS Unit of St Lawrence Church Moodubelle observed National Youth Day on August 14. The youths of the parish came together and participated in the holy eucharistic celebration led by Fr George Thomas D'Souza, parish priest of St Lawrence Church and Fr Baptist D'Souza. The youth actively participated in the liturgy and animated the choir and liturgical readings and prayers of faithful.
After the holy Eucharistic celebration, the youth gathered for a programme at the parish hall. Aidan Menezes the president of ICYM Moodubelle unit escorted the dignitaries to the dais. The program commenced with prayer hymn led by Edna and her team. Aidan Menezes welcomed the gathering.
Fr Steven Fernandes, the director of Youth Commission, Udupi diocese was the chief guest. He appreciated the youths of Moodubelle parish and had always admired them from his childhood because of their active involvement in various activities for building up the society. He urged the present youth to keep up the same energy, enthusiasm and encouraged them to be always inspired to be together. The bond among them should be so strong that they always feel the presence and belonginess to each other. He emphasized that it is only TIME that is ours and rest is nothing that we can claim to be ours. Hence to make best use of the TIME and find ways to overcome the stress and strive with positive outlook, he said.
The ICYM youth led by Fr Pradeep Cardoza, assistant parish priest and ICYM director of St Lawrence Church Moodubelle rendered a beautiful song of the youth on this day Fr George D'Souza, parish priest congratulated the youth for their active participation in YCS and ICYM activities. He encouraged the youth to add life to their age and nor age to their life. He also emphasized the strong bond the youth have will definitely help in the growth of the community. Finally he said the youth should always have a strong inclination to the word of God, prayer and interest towards spiritual things.
Adolf Fernandes, YCS president proposed the vote of thanks. The YCS and ICYM youth entertained the gathering with their dance. Gerald Fernandes, vice president, Charles Quadros, secretary parish pastoral council, Monica D'Souza, icharge of 20th commission of Moodubelle unit, Deril D'Sa, national president of YCS/ YSM, Shanthi Alva, Nikita Rebello, Dr Judith Lobo ICYM and YCS animators were present on the occasion.
