Mangaluru, Aug 23: Former MLC Ivan D'Souza on Tuesday August 23 launched a photo competition programme on the concept 'Smart City-Model Road-Potholes-2022'.

Addressing media at press club, Ivan said, "Two-wheeler riders and other vehicles are suffering due to potholes on the national highways and in the city. Due to these potholes, several motor vehicle riders are losing their lives. Though a memorandum has been submitted to fill the potholes to the city corporation and Smart City officers, there is no positive response from the corporation.

“It is the responsibility of the government to fill the potholes and provide motorable roads. Also, the government should maintain the roads in good condition.

“Public, who are wishing to participate in the competition can send photos, videos, and GPS location of the potholes to phone number 9731485875.

“The first prize is Rs 5,000. The second prize is Rs 3,000 and the third prize will be Rs 2,000,” he said.

Ivan said that the jury will give away the prizes on August 30 at 3.30 pm in front of the Smart City office.

I hope these people realise how dangerous it’s gonna be. People have died taking selfies. Hope people are safe taking “best photos” of the potholes. Please stay safe on the road people.

As you traverse by any roads in Mangalore, one will find potholes and most of them are larger than road itself. Currently Roads are on the threshold of 60:40 ratio (Road: Pothole) coinciding with for what present government is famous for.
