Bengaluru, Aug 26:A total of 10 lakh youths have been given skills training to enable them to get suitable jobs, Higher Education and Skills Development Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said in Bengaluru on Friday.

He was inaugurating a ‘’Pragati Path’’ Udyog Mela at the Ramnarayan Chellaram College in the city which was organised by the State Skills Development Corporation.

Over 200 companies have come forward to participate in the Udyog Mela and more than 5,000 candidates have already registered themselves through online. The minister said the State Government was committed to get the youth job ready and mentioned that the government has made digital, finance and technical proficiency courses compulsory in the degree courses.

Dr Narayan said there was no dearth of employment opportunities if the youth have necessary skills and proficiency along with proper education. In fact, it has become difficult to meet the requirements of the modern industries for qualified and skilled.

The students must concentrate on higher education courses meeting the contemporary requirements rather than on getting mere degrees, which do not serve the purpose. The National Education Policy has introduced curriculum to meet the current requirements and equip the students with suitable skills along with education suitable to the needs of present times, he said.

Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad, Collegiate and Technical Education Department Commissioner P Pradeep, District Skills Development Officer D L Krishnamurthy, Collegiate Education Department Joint Director Dr S Shailaja, Rotary Club of Bengaluru President Sanjay Udani, RC College Principal Dr B Chandrashekar and others participated in the function.
