Bantwal, Apr 16: In an incident that occurred in the taluk at around midnight on Friday April 15, two members of a single family died, and another was seriously injured due to lightning.
The deceased have been identified as Seeta (44), and her daughter, Gayatri (17), residents of Kallugudde in Narikombu village. Chiranjeevi alias Ganesh (16), son of Seeta, suffered serious injuries. He is being treated in a hospital in Thumbe.
The family members were sleeping at home, when the intensity of thunder and lightning increased all of a sudden at around 11.30 pm on Friday. Soon thereafter, lightning struck the house, taking away the lives of two family members instantly. Both of them died on the spot. Neighbours carried injured Ganesh to hospital thereafter.
The family is very poor. Ganesh had appeared for SSLC examination this year, it is gathered.
