Udupi, Sep 10: “Teachers have important responsibilities of imparting intellectual development education to students along with giving them value-based education,” said by Fr Dr Gerald Issac Lobo, bishop of Udupi diocese.
He was speaking on the occasion of Teachers’ Day celebrations and a felicitation programme, organised by the Catholic Education Society of Udupi diocese, held on Saturday September 10, at Maria hall, Bishop House premises.
He further said, “Education is not just gaining knowledge, but it is a human evolution. Education means comprehensive development of a student. But today, we have diverted our focus on results. Education in the true sense means mainly to develop mind, body, kind heartedness and a pure soul. Only then will students get true education in a sense. Christian educational institutions are always playing their role in imparting valuable education to children.
“The central government has enforced the National Education Policy and students should get skilled education, which is the main purpose of the new policy. Our teachers should be fully prepared for this,” he said.
The chief guest of the occasion, Akbar Ali, retired branch officer, ministry of Primary Education said, “Education is necessary for everyone to become good citizens in the society. If a country wants to develop, the role of a teacher is important in recognising the unique talent in children and nurturing it and only then will their profession be worth it.”
Retired teaching, non-teaching staff members and institutions which got 100% results were felicitated on the occasion for their dedicated work. Top scorers among the SSLC, II PUC and degree students who excelled in extra-curricular activities were also recognised and honoured by chief guests.
Charles Menezes, the correspondent, St Mary's Education Institutions welcomed the gathering.
Vincent Crasta, secretary, Catholic Education Society of Udupi diocese proposed the vote of thanks. People who were gathered offered a silent prayer to the departed souls.
