Bengaluru, Sept 12: In a bid to shed his soft image and talk tough, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday, September 12 asserted that the encroachments on storm water drains and Rajakaluves, which were mainly responsible for the recent flooding in the city causing havoc, will be removed without any leniency or mercy.

Speaking to media persons in Vidhana Soudha after the opening day’s legislature session was adjourned on account of the demise of Minister Umesh V Katti as a mark of respect without transacting any business, the Chief Minister said the State Government was very firm in carrying out the anti-encroachment drive.

Eviction notices have been served on those who have built the building or house on Rajakaluve, causing problems in the free flow of water in the kaluves, closed Rajakaluve this affecting the rain water to flow in drain to clear them, he said.

Bommai said the recent floods had affected not only IT/BT companies and workers but also the common people. Houses in low-lying areas too have faced problems.

The work on removal of all encroachments will be completed after following the procedures, he declared.

Replying to a question, Bommai said the government has sought directions from courts in many cases. The courts will be seriously apprised of the situation.

Several directions have been issued by courts in connection with flood related cases in the past. This time, the encroachments will be removed on a big scale, he added.

Asked about the release of a video in which a BJP MLA has spoken about the PSI recruitment scam, the Chief Minister said he did not know whether it is an audio or video and it will be examined.

Probe will be ordered in case of finding any wrong-doing, he said.
