Udupi, Mar 31: As coronavirus has been expanding is grip in the country in spite of best efforts, there is an urgent need to exercise control over the movement of people undergoing home quarantine as such people can pose risks to others if they move out. Vijna Labs, a part of the Manipal Group, has developed a new selfie-based technological solution for this purpose.
This solution is an artificial intelligence-based mobile app. It keeps real-time track on the presence of people through selfie-based facial features identification and geolocational tracking system. Pune police have used this app and have succeeded in the repurposing.
The app allows people who are home quarantined to be entered into the tracking system by entering a name, telephone number, selfie, and other details. Once the person uploads his registration details in the app, it compares the details with the details already existing. Once the details tally, the app gets activated for selfie and locational tagging.
The information gets transmitted to the cloud-based AI server where it analyzes the facial features and the spot where it is located currently. If it tallies, the attendance gets recorded in the dashboard, said co-founder of Vijna Labs, Dr Mkurali Kota said.
If the face and location data do not tally, the app sends a real-time alert message to the officials. The officials can then take necessary action, said Dr Murali Kota. He said that matching of details of individuals and sending messages as per the needs of consumers is also possible through this app.
Gautam Pai, promoter of Vijna Lab, said that this is the most advanced among the technologies that are available in India to keep watch on people under home quarantine. He said that apart from being technologically advanced, this app is also very much user friendly. He added that this will help the country to move on with minimum risk of infection and life.
