Udupi: Proprietor of St Anthony Press Gilbert D'Silva passes away at 76

Udupi, Dec 6: Gilbert D'Silva, proprietor of St Anthony Press Brahmavar, passed away on Monday December 5, after suffering from brief illness. He was 76.

Gilbert was a socially recognised personality for his various philanthropy activities. For many years, he used to celebrate the feast of St Anthony Shrine herein Kerekatte. He also used to offer afternoon lunch facility to all the devotees returning from the feast at his house in Matpady, Brahmavar. Thousands of devotees used to take part in the fellowship meal arranged by him every year on June 13 on the occasion of annual feast of St Anthony Shrine, Kerekatte.

Gilbert was also into printing business from a very young age. He was one of the pioneers in printing business in the region. The printing press was started in 1967.

He was also actively involved in the St Vincent de Paul and other associations. He had also served as the governing body member of Bhandavya Educational Society which initiated Nirmala English Medium School in Brahmavar.

    Very much saddened by the passing away of Gentleman Gilbert Gabriel D' Silva. Our heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, children, and their families. grandchildren. For several decades, Gilbert baba was a well-liked volunteer, and a popular orator at his native village Matpady, Brahmavar town, and beyond. His service to Holy Family Church and to the neighborhood has been phenomenal. Scores of his admirers will miss him, and remember him fondly... We will pray for the departed soul.
