Mangaluru: MCC studying options to find solution for Pacchanady fire incident

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jan 17: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) is studying options to find a long-term solution for Pacchanady fire incident.

Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, January 17, Mayor Jayanand Anchan said, “on January 6, the fire incident at Pacchanady dump yard led to a thick smoke across Pacchanady. The fire fighters from KIOCL, MCC, Airport had to be pressed into service on the spot to douse the fire. After 10 days of operation, the smoke has now been doused at Pacchanady.

On the first day of incident we could not douse the fire immediately as there was no space to move forward and also there was low visibility due to thick  smoke. The dump yard had caught fire due to a chemical reaction accompanied by a heavy wind and hot weather.”

He said, “there is need for a long-term solution so that such incidents do  not recur. So we will explore the feasibility of installing a borewell or a water pumping system to extinguish fire at the dump yard. Also, a project to install legacy waste removal system at a cost of Rs 56 crore is being put in place which will take two more years for completion. One of the four machineries used for the legacy waste removal is already functional. We will also install sprinklers in the yard to remove mud to make way for transport vehicles to move. The project is expected to be completed by next monsoon.”

With regard to health hazard in the nearby areas, MCC commissioner Akshy Shridhar said, “we have written to the district health officer, Asha workers and doctors working in primary health care centres and Namma Clinics to visit the homes regularly and continuously to monitor the health of the people.”

Deputy mayor Poornima, former mayor Premananda Shetty, corporator Hemalatha and others were present.

Every one around pachanady knows what was the cause for fire. Surely its not chemical reactions neither wind. Its a handiwork of officials n contractors to burn the waste so that they can dispose the remaining waste

BTW, your BJP could not find any corrupt congressmen and none were sent to prison as promised in 2014 by your Chowkidar 40% govt.
