Mangaluru: Parish Day celebrated at Our Lady of Miracles Church

Mangaluru, Jan 23: The parishioners along with the clergy and the religious of Milagres parish celebrated Parish Day on Sunday January 22. Fr Victor George D'Souza, the chancellor of the diocese of Mangalore was the main celebrant for the thanksgiving Mass, joined by the clergy of the parish and Fr Alliston Fernandes.

Fr Victor in his homily stressed on the importance of forming families based on the Word of God. "We are all called to a lead a holy life and it is God's word that motivates us to lead lives of holiness. The Bible should be considered as the Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth," he said.

After the Eucharistic celebration, the parishioners had a cultural evening exhibiting the talents of all, from the young to the old. Children performed dances and musical skits, youth entertained the gathering with their splendid dance medleys. Mothers danced to the tune of Konkani folklore music and other parishioners took part in a one act comedy play called Tubelight.

The guest of honour for the evening were Sandeep Malani, actor and producer, and John Errol Samuel, entrepreneur and philanthropist. During the cultural programme, past and present vice-presidents and secretaries of the parish pastoral council, those who have served at the deanery level in various capacities, and gurkars of all wards were felicitated by the guests of honour.

The parishioners and guests were later treated to a sumptuous meal prepared by the parishioners and the programme ended with traditional Baila dancing.
