Mangaluru: Karnataka Bank celebrates 99th Founder’s Day, launches centenary year bash

Mangaluru, Feb 18: The 99th founder’s day celebration of Karnataka Bank was held at its Pumpwell head office and also the bank’s centenary year bash was launched on Saturday, February 18.

Former director of IIIT Bengaluru Prof S Sadagopan delivered the founders day speech on the topic 'Technology and Life’.

Prof S Sadagopan said, “Technology has advanced in the last one decade in every sector, be it agriculture, education, housing, textile, health care, computer science, material science, transport, communication and music. Agriculture sector has witnessed the introduction of technology with the use of drones to detect diseases and also spray pesticides.”

He also said, “The Kallanai dam which was built by Karikala chola is working even today because of the technology. We can't think without elevators today and climb more than 10 floors. We never thought about today's technology 20 years ago. Even education today has been advanced with courses and upgrades which have an impact on University in different ways. Even healthcare in the coming days will see Robotic surgery and precision medicine. So technology has been part of our lives in many ways.”

Chairman of the bank P Pradeep Kumar was also present.

Managing director and CEO Mahabaleshwara M S said, “Karnataka Bank has earned profit throughout 99 years. Out of 99 years, 96 years we have declared dividend and that is the track record of Karnataka Bank. Karnataka Bank is a traditional and a conservative bank. We have never compromised on our core values and identity. Adaptability is the key to the bank’s success.”

Meanwhile, a CRS announcement was made and letters of commitment were handed over to Nagaraj Bhat from Seva Bharathi, S M Sharma from Chinmaya Mission Hubballi, Suresh Kodapala and Pavan Deshpande from Bengaluru.

Karnataka Bank has more than 900 branches spread across 22 states having 8,500 employees and 13 million customers with a turnover of Rs 1 lac 5000 crore.

Managing director and CEO Mahabaleshwara M S welcomed the gathering, executive director Shekar Rao proposed the vote of thanks and senior manager Elroy Monis compered the event.

The formal function was followed by a Carnatic musical concert ‘Strings attached’ by violinist Vidwan R Kumaresh, Vidushi Dr Jayanthi Kumaresh – Veena, Vidwan K U Jayachandra Rao – Mridangam and Vidwan Pramath Kiran- tabla and morsing.
