Mangaluru: Panchayat Raj assistant engineer caught red-handed while accepting bribe

Mangaluru, Feb 20: Karnataka Lokayukta caught red-handed an assistant engineer from the engineering department of Panchayat Raj Department while accepting a bribe of Rs 8000 from a complainant. on Monday, February 20.

The arrested is identified as Roopa. She had demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant for sanctioning of the bill for construction of a dormitory for Scheduled Caste Post Matric Boys Hostel in Belthangady.

Superintendent of Karnataka Lokayukta, Mangaluru C A Simon, DYSP Kalavathi K, Cheluvaraju B, Circle inspector Ammanulah A and others staff arrested the accused while accepting the bribe.

Zilla panchayat clarifies

The zilla panchayat and its office has clarified on the raid. 

ZP oofice has stated in a communique is hereby that the Lokayukta raid has nothing to do with the zilla panchayat and the zilla panchayat office.

    Onus is on we the people.... Our mindset is more corrupt than the officers begging for bribe.... In any project even an honest estimator provides for handling charges.... Handling charges are nothing but under the table expenses.... Unless and until the woman of the house refuses to accept corrupt income from husbands and sons we are going to remain the same.... It is possible if people put their foot down and refuse to pay.... But that may never happen because we want the first seats and chances than our neighbors and relatives.... it is our failure and we have to blame ourselves & possibly correct....
