Guwahati, Jun 23: A 10-year-old boy and two others were killed in a clash between police and protestors in Guwahati, Assam on Wednesday, June 22.

The Assam police laticharged and fired on people who were protesting again the government's eviction drive.

It reported that many police personnel were also injured in the clash.

Earlier, the Assam government had launched a drive to evict people settled in hills around Guwahati.

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) led the protest, and according to an eyewitness, the peaceful protest turned violent which forced police to resort to tear gas. CRPF forces were also called to control the situation.

A senior police officer, speaking to media said that, a few protestors damaged vehicles by pelting stones, and even pelted stones on police, who then opened fire.

On the other hand, on behalf of the protestors the KMSS leader said that the protest was peaceful and all they wanted to do was to submit a memorandum to the government official, but no official turned-up despite an hour-long wait at Last Gate. The protestors then moved towards the state secretariat, but the police prevented them.

Criticising the police, the protestors said that the government acted undemocratically by assaulting peaceful protestors.

Akhil Gogoi always wants to be in limelight. Eviction was for the security as well as for the safety of the nature. Yes Govt should settle those people who were in the eviction area before any eviction. and protest should be for the same.
