Tokyo, June 23 (IANS/RIA Novosti) An earthquake of magnitude 6.7 struck Japan early Thursday, triggering a tsunami warning for the country's northeastern region, the US Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit around 7 a.m. (0300 GMT) off Iwate prefecture on Honshu island, some 530 km northeast of Tokyo, in the same area of the Pacific where a magnitude-9 quake struck in March.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for Iwate, Kyodo News agency said.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries caused by the tremor.
There is no tsunami threat to Russia's Far East, the Sakhalin Tsunami Centre said.
The March 11 earthquake and tsunami killed more than 15,400 people in Japan, while over 8,000 are listed as missing till June 11.
