New Delhi, Jun 23: Top diplomats Nirupama Rao from India and Salman Bashir from Pakistan are due to hold peace talks on Thursday and Friday, June 23 and 24 in Islamabad ahead of the Pakistani foreign minister's visit to India.
Follwing the Pakistani militants attack on Mumbai, ties between the two countries have been severed, but earlier this month it was announced that talks could be resumed. Prime Ministers of both the countries vowed to repair the impaired relations.
Issues concerning terrorism, Kashmir dispute, future sporting contacts, cultural exchanges visits of parliamentarians among others will be discussed, said Indian foreign minister S M Krishna.
"Let not expectations be pitched too high because this is one of the relationships we are trying to cultivate in the last few months," he said.
India's Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao has stated that a satisfactory closure on the Mumbai attacks is sought.
"When we talk of closure, what we are implying is that justice should be done in this matter and those responsible for triggering this terror attacks and also those who conspired to attack our people should be brought to justice," she said. An ongoing trail in Pakistan is being taken up at a rather slow pace, she added.
