Inclement weather: Cold, cough, fever scare in Mangaluru, Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 3: The drastic variation in the temperature is causing several sickness among the residents of twin districts. The possibility of cold, cough and viral fever increasing is quite imminent.

Throughout the twin districts, the weather is cloudy till 11 am and then the mercury soars. Till 4 am, it will be slight cold. The mercury which touched 37 to 39 deg C last month is reduced slightly. All have to take care of health during this weather.

Doctors advise to drink water, even if one is not thirsty as the immunity of the body will reduce due to lack of water content.

The health department is creating awareness among the public. Doctors and teams of health workers are visiting houses. Information is also given when public visit primary health care centers.

Health department is also holding fever survey. ASHA workers, malaria control workers, health safety officers and MPW workers in corporation area are doing house visits and ask people to get themselves tested in case of symptoms of fever.

In addition to drinking plenty of water, doctors advise to wear cotton clothing. Domestic animals should not be left inside parked vehicles. Outdoor activities should be done in a controlled manner. It is better to avoid roaming in the afternoon. Antibiotics should not be taken without the advice of the doctors.

Dr Kishore Kumar and Dr Nagabhushan Udupa, district health officers say, “As the weather is changing, contagious diseases are seen at some pockets. As the temperature is increasing skin disease like sweat boil is on the rise. In case of any symptoms of disease, doctors should be consulted.”
