Puttur, Apr 3: Embarrassed over his extra marital affair with a married woman in his neighbourhood becoming public, a married man killed himself by hanging here.

The deceased Sheenappa (50) was residing in Puttur and father of three children. He used to consume liquor, hurl expletives at his wife Janaki and assault her at times.

He was at home on April 2, after skipping work, started consuming liquor at 2 pm and began hurling expletives at his wife and elder daughter Ashwini. He went to the market on his bike at 5.30 pm and returned, began assaulting and kicking Janaki. His three children came running and prevented him from beating Janaki. Sheenappa got annoyed and went to the market on his bike again.

Janaki went to the neighbourhood and objected to Rathna, the wife of Kariappa speaking to her husband Sheenappa. As there were verbal arguments, Sheenappa came and tried to assault Janaki and children but Rathna prevented the assault. Sheenappa went out again on his bike.

As he did not return even after 10 pm, their neighbour Krishnappa went searching for him and found his body hanging from a mango tree in the fields. It is said that the deceased had an affair with the neighbourhood woman.
