Udupi: Private security firm, police dept come together to prevent burglary

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Apr 6: A private security firm of Kundapur and the police department started a joint venture in 2019 to prevent theft incidents in the night and looting which was successfully implemented in Kundapur. Now it is getting extended to Udupi also.

SP Akshay Hakay Machhindra and additional SP S T Siddalingappa have made preparations to implement this plan in Udupi under the name Safe Udupi. As a second stage of the plan, Udupi subdivision DySP Dinakar and city station officer Manjappa have held more than 10 meetings with entrepreneurs and Jewellery owners’ association to create awareness.

Jewellery owners have already agreed to install camera under the new plan. Around 20 cameras were installed from March 23 in the city.

The security firm installs the cameras free of cost. The user should pay Rs 2000 every month for one camera. Monitoring will be done every day from 8 pm to 6 am and if required, 24x7 direct monitoring is also done. In this system, direct viewing is only possible. When there is suspicion of any untoward incident, the same is downloaded in the system. Hence, even if there is an issue in the hard disk at the crime scene, the visuals are safe with the security firm. The firm informs the beat police, station and concerned owner through phone. All cameras are ultra HD and clearly record the sound. A month-long record of visuals are available with the firm.

Already 250 cameras of the security firm are functioning and 19 people are doing direct viewing. They install one camera free for every 10 cameras installed for the safety of the society.

Such security it should start in mangalore.earlier 50years back police people used to visit all street in the night in night beat that time they have to do their duty on best foot or cycle.my father was in police dept he used to go in that night round in a old bycle and even after primoted as inspector still he used to do this duty in cycle.that time the budget provision is very low hardly one van is provided to one station.but now the police dept is flushed with funds but the robbers are multified in thousand.thiese robbers are nothing but jobless people day time they are roaming in town evening in local bars and night they enter the houses locked or people out town.they get all information about the household through their informers like electrician, massion, domestic help.their favourite items are gold ornaments, silver, bronzee vessels used in kitchen and big hundies in bathtoomd which generally used for boiling water forbath.the residence compliment to police nothing happens ,if you are Influencial, politically connected results is thief are caught and u get back urban thing

Police beat system is still the best way to prevent crimes especially at night. I have seen even police officers of DySP rank doing night beats or rounds few decades ago. Even though the technology has advanced , still beat system is the best. Also police get to know people who are staying in that locality and can easily gather intelligence regarding crime and other anti social activities. There used to be beat book in each locality where beat police presence was signed by respectable person of that locality. Policemen used to do beat/night rounds on foot or bicycle.
