Mangaluru: Tenth graduation ceremony held at St Agnes College

Mangaluru, Apr 15: The tenth graduation day of St Agnes College (Autonomous) was held on Saturday, April 15 in Mother Mary Aloysia Centenary Auditorium of the college.

The ceremony witnessed the awarding of graduation certificates by the institution to the class of 2019. The graduation ceremony began with the ceremonial March followed by invoking God's blessing. Sr Dr Lydia AC, joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions declared the tenth graduation ceremony open.

Col Prof Dr Y S Siddegowda, vice-chairman, KSHEC and former vice-chancellor of Tumkur University was the chief guest and addressed the gathering said, “The 21st century is very much a platform for the creation of the global world which is driven by a data economy. This provides tremendous opportunities for you as the future leaders of business, industry and academia. Further, emphasis should be laid on the development of character through ethical issues and fostering empathy and compassion. The world is changing rapidly, and it is more important than ever that you continue to learn and grow throughout your life. I congratulate all the graduates for their achievements".

In her presidential address, joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions Sr Dr Lydia AC said, “An opportunity lost today is an opportunity lost forever. Therefore, use every opportunity to make a unique contribution to this world. You should understand your sweet spot to strike the world and take a stand. The wide comfort is dangerous. Therefore, one must plant seeds of hard work today to bear fruits of labour tomorrow and embrace the power of love and trust in God.”

Sr Rose Agnes AC, assistant provincial superior of Apostolic Carmel Congregation, Sr M Sudeepa A C, secretary of Apostolic Carmel Educational Society, members of the governing body and academic council, deans, chairpersons and members of various boards of studies, faculty members - both teaching and support staff, retired staff, guests and parents were also present.

Dr Nancy Vaz, registrar (Evaluation) presented the list of 650 graduates to the president Sr Dr Lydia AC of which 121 were post-graduates and 529 were undergraduates.

Sr Dr M Venissa AC, principal of the college administered the oath to the fresh graduates.

Dr Ita M D’Souza, IQAC co-ordinator of the college, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. Shubha Rekha, dean administration, announced the names of the 18 rank holders who were felicitated and awarded with the rank certificates and cash prizes.

Sr Dr Vinora A C, post graduate co-ordinator; Dr Nagesh, dean of arts; Helen Serrao, dean, faculty of science and Nimita K, dean, faculty of commerce and management, announced the names of the graduates from their respective faculties.

Dr Devi Prabha Alva, assistant professor, department of Commerce, proposed the vote of thanks. Marina Lobo, HoD of Physics compered the programme. Shubharekha, dean administration was the convenor of the programme.
