Dhaka, July 10 (IANS) Around 70 people, including 10 policemen, were injured in separate clashes in Bangladesh during a 30-hour countrywide strike Sunday to protest against dropping the words "absolute faith in Allah" from the constitution, a media report said.
A 12-party combine led by the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish called the shutdown with support from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led opposition, the Daily Star reported.
In Narayanganj, protesters blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and burned tyres early morning.
A clash ensued when pro-strike activists met anti-strike demonstrators face to face in Siddhirganj, leaving 20 people injured, police said.
Police charged with batons to disperse the activists. Locals said police also fired rubber bullets.
At least 47 protesters were picked up from Chittagong, 25 from Dhaka and three from Narayanganj, police said.
