Kundapur, Jun 1: Miscreants discarded about 12 male calves born about three or four days ago in the forest here. The cruel act came to light at Al Gaddikeri, near Yarukone, Heroor villge here on Wednesday May 31. All the calves were male and belonged to the high-breed. The miscreants had brought them in a vehicle and left them.

Local resident, teacher Jayaprakash Shetty heard the cries of the calves when he was returning home. He peeped in between the rocks and found the calves. While two of them died out of hunger, the remaining calves were weak without food. Locals fed grass and water and informed the Byndoor veterinary hospital doctor for treatment.

Locals suspect that there were ten to twelve calves. Five of them were found in between the rocks. A search is on for the remaining calves.

Temporary shelter for the calves has been arranged at the house of Nagesh Yarukone, a local. Villagers have requested elected representatives to send them to the byre. Teacher Jayaprakash Shetty, Sudhaker Poojary, Nagesh, Rakshit and Manjunath extended help.
