Bantwal, July 19: As many as 92 pilgrims from the district on a tour to north India have been staying at Gujarat railway station for the last 24 hours due to the flood situation.

Several places in Gujarat have been submerged due to relentless rainfall during the last 15 days. Roads have been blocked and clogged with rainwater. The pilgrims from Dakshina Kannada district were returning after visiting Somanatheshwara Temple in Gujarat. As the roads were inundated their journey came to a standstill for a day.

Pilgrims travelled under the leadership of Narikombu village resident Jayakumar. They had to proceed to Ujjain by train at 10 am on Wednesday morning. But the train did not arrive till 8 pm, informed pilgrim Prabhaker Prabhu.

Pilgrimage to Amarnath has been conducted under the leadership of Jayakumar for the last 20 years.

Three pilgrims from Calicut also travelled with the pilgrims from the district. All the pilgrims have informed their families that they are safe.

This happens every year in different pilgrimage places and many pilgrims die too! IMHO, people especially the old and sick should refrain from going for pilgrimage risking their lives; rationally thinking it doesn't make sense!!

That is efficiency, care and concern. Not even a single death in the recent thunderstorm in Gujarat. We must thank the good deeds too.
